Lokmanya – Ek Yug Purush (लोकमान्य – एक युगपुरुष) is a full-length feature film in Marathi ** (with English Subtitles) ** based on the thoughts and teachings of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the visionary and revolutionary leader and political philosopher, who waged war against the British rule in India in early years of 20th Century. Lokmanya, aptly described... as ‘Father of Indian Unrest’ was a multifaceted intellectual. He was a politician, historian, Sanskrit scholar, teacher, journalist, astrologer and a rebel revolutionary.
The film is not a typical biopic but depicts his thoughts and their relevance in today’s times. It shows direct relations and relevance of Lokmanyain today’s times. That makes it interesting.
The movie was recently selected for the 45th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa and was greatly appreciated. Senior actor Sachin Pilgaonkar send this video showing his love for the director Om Raut and his team.
Eminent actor of Marathi stage, films and TV screen, Subodh Bhave has played Lokmanya. Known for his acting talent and studious nature, Subodh has bagged many coveted awards for his roles in films and theatre. His Bal Gandharv had become a mile-stone in Indian films. Another talented personality of Indian TV, Chinmay Mandlekar has played Makarand, a representative of young generation. Priya Bapat plays young generation girl.
Om Raut, a Syracuse University (USA) graduate in film making, makes his directorial debut in this film. After becoming Engineering graduate in India, Om took masters degree in film making in USA and worked as a Producer-Writer with MTV in New York, before moving back to India to pursue his career as Director. Before taking up this project, Om was Chief Creative Officer at DAR Media, India where he produced ‘Haunted 3D’, India’s highest grosser horror film, ‘Lalbaug-Parel’ (Hindi version: City of Gold) and a comedy ‘Teecha Baap, Tyacha Baap’, starring veteran actor Sachin.
Veteran Makeup artiste Vikram Gaikwad has designed the make up. Gaikwad has a record of winning four national awards in three years. He had designed the make up for ‘Bal Gandharv’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’.
